Preserving the Salesian Spirit

One of our textbooks in the novitiate, "The Handbook of Religious Life," a legacy left by the late Fr. Alfred Cogliandro, SDB, a priestly Salesian priest himself and the longest reigning novice master in the Philippine Salesian provinces quoted Fr. Julius Barberis (1845-1927), himself a novice master of the Salesian congregation for 25 years, and who was told by Don Bosco himself "to have understood Don Bosco well." Fr, Barberis recommended three efficcacious means to preserve the Salesian spirit:

+ Increase our knowledge of Don Bosco;
+ Read the Constitutions frequently; and
+ Keep abreast with Salesian hagiography.
